Thailand to host the world’s first “BicyRobo Championship”

The Asian Institute of Technology (AIT) prepares to host the world’s first “BicyRobo Thailand Championship” in August 2010.

The AIT, in cooperation with Thai Robot Society and the private sector, has launched the “BicyRobo Thailand Championship” in which the contestants will be asked to develop a computerized bicycle that can travel independently without riders. The bike must be able to move along a guided track without having to be operated by remote control.

The key organizer, Assoc Prof Manukit Panichkul, said this is the world’s first-ever BicyRobo competition which aims to develop creativity and skills in robot technology and engineering control. The event will provide an opportunity for participants to exchange know-how and use it for further development.

The work of the participants will be judged on the speed, the traveling distance, and the contribution to environmental friendliness. Interested university and vocational students can apply for the contest until 19 March 2010. The selection round will be held on 3 June and the final on 5 August. The winner will receive 150,000 THB and the runner-up 100,000 THB.
