Prime Minister Abhisit said that 2 March 2010 was announced as the “National Craftsmen Skill Standards Day” under the Cabinet Resolution of 17 February 2009 in honor of H.M. the King Bhumibol Adulyadej: “Father of Thai Crafts Standards.” He stressed that it is one of the important days of our nation.
H.M. King Bhumibol who is talented in many fields, has been tirelessly working in creating a number of masterpieces which are valuable for Thailand. For instance, he created Chaipattana Low Speed Surface Aerator and Royal Rain (rain enhancement project). He is an ideal role model of the Thai craftsmen. H.M. the King once said that all craftsmen play the important roles in the development of our country and the life of our people. This is because we need their skills in the filed of manufacturing and services which are important for economic development and security of our country.
H.M. the King stressed that Thai people should not forget how important roles Thai craftsmen play in our country development. Currently, there are about 66 million people in Thailand. About 37 millions of which are in the labor force. The government is aware that these people play important role in the development of our country and thus implement the policy in supporting the development of their skills to meet the high level. It is a goal of the government to support our craftsmen in the process of learning so that they can analyze, make a decision and are able to apply their knowledge to the new technology so that the skill standards of Thai craftsmen will be enhanced.
The world is experiencing rapid changes in technology, structure of population, trades, investments and increasing numbers of international agreements. In addition, the need to develop skills and expertise of labor force is also increasing. To support the development of craftsmen's skills, the government has established the Committee on Labor Skill Standards Development of Thailand.
The Committee is responsible in developing policies, plans, standards and benchmarks for ranking national labor skill standards. In addition, it will work with the relevant institutions to develop the curriculums and training necessary to support Thai craftsmen in developing their skills so that they can be promoted and receive salary increases.
On this occasion, the Prime Minister stressed the important role of craftsmen and the development of national labor skills. He continued in honoring H.M. the King who is the father of Thai craft standard. At the end, he led in paying gratitude to H.M. the King.
