Thai boxing, or Muay Thai, has long been a popular form of martial art. It has been practiced in Thailand for centuries and King Naresuan, in particular, was the first monarch who introduced the sport as part of military training in the 16th century. Before each fight, a graceful and mesmerizing ritual dance named ram muay or wai kru is performed by both fighters to placate the spirits and show respect to the art and its teachers.
