Since 1 May 2009, the Royal Thai Government has set up an insurance scheme specifically for foreigners visiting the Kingdom who are affected by losses or harms or unableto leave the Kingdom in event of riots.

          For the current situation related to the demonstrations taking place in Thailand, this insurance scheme covers losses and damages occurring during the period from 9 April 2010 at 16.31 hrs. until 31 March 2011 at 16.30 hrs., and applies to all foreign visitors entering the Kingdom legally. It covers losses and damages in the following three cases, as follows:

          1) Loss of life. limbs or permanent disabilities in the amount of not exceeding US$ 10,000 per person;

          2) Hospital expenses as incurred, and hospital stay, if necessary, for a maximum period of 10 days, in the amount ofUS$ 1,000 per person and not exceeding usn0,000per person;

          3) Loss or damage due to travel limitation in the amount ofUS$ 100 per personper day but not exceeding the totalofUS$ 10,000 per person.

          To make claims under the Insurance Scheme for Foreigners Visiting the .. Kingdom. those eligible should contact Indara Insurance Public Company Limited (at +662-205-7711) within 30 days as from the date when the losses or damages occurred. Among the documents required are: 1) copy of the affected person's passport with immigration stamp; 2) death certificate and forensic report in case of death, or doctor reports in case of loss of important organs or limbs, or injuries; and 3) document certifying that the person concerned is covered by the insurance.           It should be noted that this Insurance Scheme does not cover foreigners with resident status in Thailand. Neither does it cover losses and damages occurring outsideThailand or dueto causes other thanthe riots. including acts of terrorism.
