Emergency Decree invoked in eleven more provinces

On 13 May 2010, the Centre for the Resolution of the Emergency Situation (CRES) announced that Prime Minister Abhisit Vejjajiva had signed an announcement declaring a severe emergency situation in a total of 17 provinces, including those already covered by the earlier announcement made on 7 April 2010. This second declaration was deemed necessary as there have been groups of persons causing disturbances or preparing to instigate violent incidents in those areas, with an intention of harming or damaging the life and property of others. Such actions could seriously affect national security, the administration of the state, the confidence in the country’s economic system, peace and order in the society, as well as the exercise of rights and freedoms of others. It is therefore urgent that the situation be resolved as quickly as possible.

In all, the Emergency Decree on Public Administration in the Emergency Situation B.E. 2548 (2005) is now in effect in 17 provinces, namely: Bangkok, Nonthaburi, Samut Prakan, Pathumthani, Nakhon Pathom, Ayutthaya, Chonburi, Chiang Mai, Chiang Rai, Lampang, Nakon Sawan, Nan, Khon Kaen, Udon Thani, Chaiyaphoom, Nakon Ratchasima and Si Sa Ket.
