Thai Minister of Defence's Visit 13-14 Aug 09

On Thursday 13 and Friday 14 August 2009, General Prawit Wongsuwan, Minister of Defence of Thailand,  paid an official visit to Singapore at the invitation of his Singaporean counterpart, Mr. Teo Chee Hean. He was accompanied by General Songkitti Jaggabatara,  Supreme Commander of the Royal Thai Armed Forces; General Anupong Paojinda, Commander-in-Chief of the Royal Thai Army; Admiral  Khamthorn Pumhiran, RTN, Commander-in-Chief of the Royal Thai Navy; Air Chief Marshal Itthaporn Subhawong, Commander-in-Chief of the Royal Thai Air Force and several senior officials of the Ministry of Defence and the 3 Armed Forces.  The main purpose of the visit was to further strengthen the ties of friedship and cooperation between the armed forces of the two countries.

The Thai Minister of Defence had a consultation with Mr. Teo Chee Hean, Minister of  Defence of Singapore on 14 August 2009 from 10.30-11.25 a.m. and later paid a courtesy call on Prime Minister Lee Hsien Loong from 11.15 to 11.45 a.m.  During the two meetings, he was accompanied by Ambassador Nopadol Gunavibool.
Both sides discussed  issues of mutual interest such as bilateral and multilateral trainings, regional situation and issues pertaining to ASEAN Defence Ministers' Meeting (ADMM), of which Thailand is current Chiarman and is scheduled to host ADMM in November 2009. Apart from the two meetings, the Thai Minister of Defence also visited a few military installations and joined a welcome dinner hosted by Mr. Teo Chee Hean.
