Thai Association (Singapore) held its Annual General Meeting 2008-2009 at the Royal Thai Embassy

On Friday 11 September 2009 from o8.30 to 10.30 p.m., the Thai Association, Singapore (TAS), held its Annual General Meeting (AGM) at the Royal Thai Embassy Meeting Room. It was chaired by Mr. Surasak Chinnaphongse, President of TAS. This annual meeting was attended by 36 ordinary members including Mr. Marut Jitpatima, Minister, and Ms. Sutthathip Vathitphund, First Secretary. Ambassador Nopadol Gunavibool was also invited to attend as Honourary Member. A number of Thais living in Singapore, including President and Secretary of the Thai Cooks Association in Singapore, also attended as observers.

In his welcome remarks, Ambassador Nopadol reiterated the policy of the Royal Thai Embassy in giving full support to TAS with a view to strengthen the Thai community in Singapore. Believing that TAS could serve as a focal point in helping fellow Thai nationals residing in Singapore, the Ambassador has worked closely with TAS since taking up duty. He congratulated the present TAS Executive Committee on the progress and achievements made during the past year, which have helped serve Thai community’s needs and support the strategy of the Royal Thai Embassy. He pledged continued support and hoped that TAS would further expand its activities to include cooperation with associations of other nationals living in Singapore with a view to building a network among them.

The highlights of the AGM included the progress report TAS activities during the past year namely, the amendment of TAS' Constitution, the improvement of TAS website, the organization of Thai cultural events e.g. Loy Kratong Day and Songkran Day, and the elections of TAS new Executive Committee for the year 2009-2010. Mr. Surasak Chinnaphongse, incumbent President of TAS, was elected TAS President for another year.

Before the AGM, the Ambassador hosted a dinner for all AGM’s participants at his residence.
