Thai Ambassador visited Thai student who fell on MRT track in Singapore

On Friday 8 April 2011 from 10.00 am. to 10.30 am. Ambassador Nopadol Gunavibool visited Miss Nitcharee Pen-Eakchanasak at Tan Tock Seng  Hospital to wish her a speedy recovery from injuries sustained in an accident at Ang Mo Kio MRT station on 3 April 2011.   Miss Nitcharee was awaiting the south-bound train on that day when she suddenly fainted and fell onto  the path of an oncoming train. One of her legs was severed by the impact while the other had to be amputated later at Tan Tock Seng Hospital.

Ambassador Nopadol, on behalf of the Royal Thai Embassy,  expressed concern and discussed with Miss Nitcharee's parents about her physical and psychological conditions.  The Ambassador, on behalf of the Embassy staff, presented  cash  donation as education fund to Miss  Nitcharee, through her father Mr. Kittanesh.    Since the incident , the Royal Thai Embassy representatives have visited her regularly.  The Embassy has also been coordinating with the authorities concerned  regarding various issues such as medical expenses, compensation etc. and has extended all necessary assistance to Miss Nitcharee as well as facilitated her parents’ travel from Thailand to  Singapore.
 
Miss Nitcharee, 14, a native of the southern Thai province of Trang, travelled to Singapore to attend a short  English language course at a local language school. She was previously scheduled to finish her study and return to Thailand on 8 April 2011.
