Royal Thai Embassy Organized Religious Ceremony to Celebrate the Arrival of Buddha Relics
On Sunday 6 September 2009 from 9.30 to 11.00 a.m., Ambassador Nopadol Gunavibool presided over a Buddhist religious ceremony to celebrate the arrival of Lord Buddha's Relics at the Royal Thai Embassy at Centre Stage during 9th Thai Festival, which was being held at the lawns of the Embassy.
The ceremony was performed by 9 venerable monks led by Ven. Phratep Siddhivides, Chief Abbot of Wat Ananda Metyarama and President of the Thai Sanka Council in Singapore, and Chief Abbots as well as senior monks from other Thai temples. Members of Team Thailand and their families, Thais living in Singapore and Thailand as well as some Singaporean Buddhists joined the ceremony.
In his opening speech, Ambassador Nopadol informed the gathering that Lord Buddha's Relics were given to the Royal Thai Embassy by the Cultural and Religious Committee of the Senate through the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Thailand. The purpose of sending Sacred Buddha's Relics to all Thai diplomatic missions around the world is to serve as symbol of Lord Buddha in promoting good deeds and virtue. The venerable Chief Abbot congratulated the Royal Thai Embassy for having possession of the Sacred Relics which will bring happiness and well-being to the Thai people as well as other Buddhists in Singapore.
The worship Of Lord Buddha's Relics is observed to show people that enlightenment is possible, to remind them that the Buddha was a real person and to also promote good virtue.
