Celebration of His Majesty King Bhumibol’s 84th Birthday Anniversary and the National Day of Thailand
On Thursday 1 December 2011, from 18.30 to 21.30 hrs, the Royal Thai Embassy hosted a reception at the Shangri-La Hotel to celebrate His Majesty King Bhumibol’s 84th Birthday Anniversary and to mark the National Day of Thailand. Mr. Kwaw Boon Wan, Minister of National Development , Mr. Yeo Guat Kwang and Mr. Hri Kumar Nair, Members of Parliament, were Guests-of-Honour for the auspicious evening. There were more than 500 distinguished guests from the diplomatic corps, Thai nationals residing in Singapore and Singaporeans as well as foreigners who are special friends of Thailand from all walks of life – businessmen, government officials, professionals in the private and the public sectors as well as members of the academics, the media, the armed forces and NGOs in Singapore.
Ambassador Nopadol Gunavibool, in his speech, emphasized H.M. the King Bhumibol Aduldej’s life-long and selfless dedication to the welfare of his people which has earned His Majesty’s deep love and respect from the Thai people. As his tenure is ending at the end of 2011, Ambassador Nopadol touched on the close ties between Singapore and Thailand and thanked the Singapore authorities for their warm friendship and cooperation.
Following the Toast made by Ambassador Nopadol and Minister Kwaw Boon Wan, the guests had the chance to taste wonderful and exquisite Thai and oriental cuisine prepared by Thai chef from various establishments. Some of the rare ingredients and mouth-watering desserts were air-flown especially for this occasion from Bangkok to ensure that all guests enjoyed the Thai cuisine. Moreover, the guests were entertained by the Thai live orchestra band ‘Thai Temp’ from Mahidol University’s College of Music of Thailand, as they performed several musical compositions of His Majesty the King and traditional Thai music.
