On 5 August 2010 from 7.00 pm to 8.30 pm., Ambassador Nopadol Gunavibool, accompanied by Ms. Kaewta Pisitkasem, Public Service Executive Development Officer, attended the ASEAN Day 2010 Reception at the Shangri-la Hotel. Mr. George Yeo, the Minister for Foreign Affairs of Singapore, who was the guest of honour, gave opening remarks which highlighted ASEAN’s social and economic development and the formation of the ASEAN Community. The celebrations for ASEAN Day this year featured an Essay Writing Competition for junior college students to express their views on why ASEAN mattered to them. The winner of the first prize was Ms. Michelle Ou Yong Wai Mun under the title of “Why ASEAN Matters To Me”.(For the Essay,

The event also featured the ASEAN Young Photographers Award under the theme of “the Sporting Spirits of ASEAN” and one winner has been selected from each ASEAN country. Mr. Pongpakorn Rungsihirunrat was the winner from Thailand to receive the Award. Due to his prior engagement in Thailand, Mr. Pongpakorn was unable to travel to Singapore to receive the Award from the Minister of Foreign Affairs. Ambassador Nopadol Gunavibool was there to receive the Award on his behalf.
